News & Prayer Requests
An urgent appeal on behalf of all of those who are jealous for Truth and Justice in our Land.
Dear Friend,
If we are to succeed in our mission to bring justice and truth to this land of ours, which we love, then I urgently need your help.
There are simply too few of us with too few resources to fight
the battle on our own. Will you stand with me in helping to fight for
freedom of speech, justice and truth in the UK?
The prophet Isaiah, at the end of chapter 8 says “Then they
will look … and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom …”.
Sometimes that is how we feel at Christian Concern For Our
Nation and the Christian Legal Centre when we look at the situation
around us and the seemingly impossible task of pushing back the
darkness. But then, what an encouragement to read the very next word in
that passage—“Nevertheless”!—and how full of hope is that word
and how encouraging when we remember that David, when faced with Goliath
could say “Neverthless” because he knew that God was with him. In the
same way, I know this is God’s work and without Him it will never
succeed.
As I look back over the past year, I am amazed and encouraged at
how, in the apparent darkness of the situation, I am able to say to you
“Nevertheless!” this is what, with God’s help, has been achieved:
|
In February 2009 Caroline Petrie, the nurse from Somerset who was suspended after offering to pray for a patient, was reinstated following CLC’s intervention. Caroline has since been named in the top 10 most influential women of 2009 by the Times newspaper. |

Kwabena Peat, reinstated after CLC's intervention
CCFONtv, 24 Jul 2009 (04m 12s) |
In July 2009 Kwabena Peat, a Christian teacher who was a head of year at a North London secondary school, was reinstated after legal assistance provided by CLC. Mr Peat had been facing the sack after expressing his Christian views on homosexuality. |
|
In April 2009 David Booker, a Christian employee at a homelessness charity was suspended after answering questions about his faith to a colleague at work. With CLC’s help, he was reinstated. |

The Coroners and Justice Act 2009 was one of CCFON’s major successes of the year. Together with like-minded organisations, our praying, campaigning and letter-writing defeated every amendment to the Coroners and Justice Bill that would have legalised assisted suicide.
But now, we are facing even more challenges as we stand at the beginning of 2010 and even greater battles to fight if we are to stand up for truth and justice. As I write to you, we currently have over 15 live legal cases that CLC are fighting on behalf of Christians against the discrimination and prejudice of employers and of society as a whole.
|
ITV News, 20 Dec 2009 (01m 26s) |
Cases like that of Olive Jones, the teacher who was sacked for offering to pray with one of her students. Many more cases like this will arise in 2010 and we need to be ready to act when they do.
We need your continued support to ensure that the law on assisted suicide will be enforced in future, despite the Director of Public Prosecutions’ draft policy. |
We need to continue to campaign on Islamic issues: we will continue
to consult with the Government and to make many of these issues more
widely known through our published papers.
We continue our campaigns for the Government to uphold the Human Right of Christian parents to educate their children in accordance with their beliefs and to uphold the right of Christian organisations to employ practising Christians despite the Equality Bill.
I know that you are concerned about these issues and the need to
stand firm against the rising tide of secular humanism in the UK and I
want to ask you to stand with CCFON and CLC at this time, please, by
supporting our work financially. It is the only way we can continue
to operate.
If we are to continue taking on cases like Caroline Petrie’s and
Kwabena Peat’s, to continue to influence the law and public policy, and
to ensure we are able to meet our financial commitments, we need to find
the money to pay operating costs and legal costs. Contrary to what some
people think, we are not a group of wealthy lawyers who are working for
CCFON and CLC on a part-time basis. No, we are a group of Christian
lawyers and other professionals who have dedicated our lives to the
service of our God, the re-establishment of Christian values in this
country, the fight against injustice and the threat of a greater
darkness sweeping over this nation.
What I am asking from you is this. Will you send a regular monthly donation to CCFON to enable us to keep our doors open during 2010? A regular gift helps us to plan for the future. At this time we can only continue at this level for another 3 months.
Please could you send, as a matter of urgency, a regular gift of
£20 per month? If you can afford £30
or even £50 per month then I would be very grateful.
Whatever you are able to afford to give will be welcome and will go
towards this valuable work.
The task is great, the battle is fierce.
Nevertheless, our God is great and He is our hope.
Thank you for your prayers, for your encouragement and for your gifts.
God knows how much they will be used for His glory.
